First Annual Catfish Derby

The Paris Landing Tourism League announces the First Annual Catfish Derby is going to be held this year at Paris Landing. The Derby is a free event and is a preliminary for the Big Cat Quest catfishing tournament held on May 31st. You may weigh your catches at Hulmes Sporting Goods in Paris, Lakeview Grocery at Paris Landing, Or Hooks N' Horns (Bass Pro Retailer). Weigh your catches from May 5th - May 30th. The largest fish taken each week will receive a $100 plus one free entry worth $75 to the Big Cat Quest. Prizes will be awarded on Friday May 30th between 4-9pm at the Big Cat Quest office by the Amphitheater at Paris Landing State Park. Four prizes will be awarded. The Watercolor Guild of Trigg, Lyon and Caldwell Counties (WAG/TLC) will have their 3rd annual Art Show, Friday & Saturday, May 9th & 10th (Rain
date: May 16th and 17th ). The guild has been invited to have their show on the grounds of Seasons by the Lake Nursery and Gift Shop. In past years the show has had just miniature paintings for sale in the Carriage House at the Fairholme House. This year, paintings of all sizes will be offered along with giclee' prints and cards. There will also be working artists, painting in the garden areas. Helping Hands of Trigg County will have a concession booth throughout the show. The Dove Brothers

Award-winning Southern Gospel performers the Dove Brothers will be in concert Friday, May 9, at 7:30 p.m. at the Kentucky Opry in Draffenville.
Formed in 1998 by brothers Eric and McCray Dove, the Dove Brothers received the Horizon Group of the Year in 1999 and Favorite Traditional Male Quartet at the 2002 Singing News Fan Awards. Their hits include “Get Away Jordan,” “Didn’t It Rain” and their latest release, “You Don’t Know God’s Love.”
The group’s single “I Can Pray” was named the number one song of 2007 by the Singing News magazine and became the number one selling soundtrack of all time, surpassing “Beulah Land.” Their latest CD, “Life,” is available at the group’s Web site, www.dovebrothersquartet.com.
Tickets are $18 for adults and $9 for children. Proceeds from the concert will benefit WVHM, a 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week, listener-supported Southern Gospel radio station in Hardin, Kentucky. New Farmers Market Opening May 10th in Grand River

The Livingston County Extension Office is organizing a Farmers Market in Grand Rivers. The new farmers market will be beside the Badgett Playhouse on Saturday mornings from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. starting on May 10. Currently, four vendors have signed up to sell at the market. All are local Livingston County farmers. Early May markets will feature potted plants. As the season progresses, items for sell will include a wide variety of herbs and vegetables. The Farmers Market will also have a Smithland location. The Smithland Market will be open on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. The Smithland Market is located off Hwy 60 on Union Street at Double B Gift Shop and opens May 8.

The spring “sharathon” fundraiser for WAAJ 89.7 FM will be held May 13-15 from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. each day.
WAAJ, located in Hardin, Kentucky, is a listener-supported 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week bluegrass radio station. It also broadcasts family-friendly programming, such as Focus on the Family and Key Life with Steve Brown.
