Sunset is a beautiful time to hike around Hematite Lake. Join Nature Station staff as we take a leisurely walk around the lake, looking for wildlife such as herons and beavers, and admire the splendor of a sunset over the lake. By the time we hit the last leg, we'll see the greatest fireworks show in nature- lightning bugs! Program free to all LBL visitors. Weather permitting. 6-8:30pm

Summer heats up with Freedom Fest, Murray's premier Fourth of July celebration the first weekend in July. Freedom Fest celebrates our country's freedom with a street fair, a family day in the park, a country music concert featuring major country stars, an outdoor gospel music concert and a fireworks display that is one of the largest in Western Kentucky.

Enjoy an afternoon of holiday fun and entertainment at The Homeplace as we celebrate one of the biggest holidays in the1850's, Independence Day. Festivities kick off with a visit from the popular Kentucky statesman Henry Clay as he regales us with stories of his life: his adventures as a Kentucky senator, Speaker of the House, Secretary of State and his unsuccessful run for the presidency. Then let the games begin! Join in on the fun! Play old-time games; enjoy a cool slice of watermelon, cool under the shade of the maple trees while enjoying music and a few tall tales. The day will end with a bang as a paper hot air balloon is launched into the sky to celebrate the biggest holiday of the 1850's, Independence Day. *Ideal for Home Educators. "Henry Clay is played by George McGee and the program is funded in part by the Kentucky Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities". Program free with paid admission. 1-4 pm

  Froggy Fest 2009 
  Where:  Murray

Froggy Fest 2009 "hoppens" on the 4th of July and begins at 5pm at Roy Stewart Stadium on the campus of Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky. The concert lineup includes Rick Huckaby, River County, Bomshel, the Carter Twins, Jason Meadows and David Lee Murphy. This "Six For Six" holiday spectacular will feature six acts for only six dollars, along with a Color Guard during the National Anthem and a huge fireworks display. Reserved seats are $25. The annual and certainly the largest event of Murray's annual multi-day Freedom Festival celebration, which includes a parade, farmer's market, 10k run, street fair and barbecue contest.
